When I think about the Cincinnati Bengals coming into the NFL, my heart swells with pride. It’s almost unbelievable to think this team, my team, cheap jerseys from china has been around for so long. But in 1968, not only did the Bengals come onto the scene, they also went full steam. Want to hear the full story? Well, let me tell you all about it!
It all began back in 1966. That’s when then-NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle officially announced the AFL-NFL merger. In order to accommodate the merger, the NFL had to accept five AFL teams: Denver Broncos, Houston Oilers, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, and my team, cheap jerseys from china the mighty Cincinnati Bengals.
At the time, the Bengals were a promising expansion team coached by the great Paul Brown. Brown was highly experienced and had previously coached the Cleveland Browns to an impressive 8-3-2 record during the 1950-1955 seasons. After a successful run with the Browns, he decided to apply his skills to the Bengals.
Brown, along with his staff, masterfully put together a team made up of talented players. These players included the likes of Bob Johnson, Bill Bradley, and one of my favorite players, Boobie Clark. Clark was an outstanding running back who led the league in rushing yards and touchdowns in both 1971 and 1972.
Of course, the Bengals were not the only team joining the NFL in 1968. That same year the Miami Dolphins, wholesale nfl jerseys Oakland Raiders, wholesale nfl jerseys from china San Diego Chargers, and Buffalo Bills were also added, making the NFL an 18-team league.
With the addition of the five new teams, the NFL also created a new draft lottery in which the teams select new players in the summer. In August of that year, the AFL-NFL draft would take place in New York City and the Bengals would select their first-ever player, Royce Abram.
When kick-off came on September 15th, 1968, the Bengals lost their first-ever game to the Broncos by the score of 13-10. Even though the first game was a disappointment, it has not stopped the Bengals cheap jerseys from china experiencing success in the NFL.
Since then, the Bengals have made the playoffs 18 times and won two division championships. They have also had some of the greatest players ever to play the game, including Anthony Munoz, wholesale jerseys Chad Johnson, and cheap nfl jerseys I’m sure the great Joe Burrow will soon add his name to the list.
I honestly cannot wait to see what this upcoming season has in store for us Bengals fans. I’m sure it won’t be without its bumps, cheap nfl jerseys but with the leadership of Head Coach Zac Taylor and some stellar draft picks, I’m sure the Bengals will be back to being a competitive and successful team. Who knows, cheap nfl jerseys maybe the NFL playoffs will be calling at Paul Brown Stadium!
